On Tuesday night, February 18th, the 3-seeded Frisch Cougars travelled out to Brooklyn to take on the 2-seeded YDE Thunder in the quarterfinals. Both teams played great games, but it was Frisch’s goal scoring that ultimately had the upper hand in this one.
The game got off to a slow start with both teams playing stellar defense. YDE, led by Ikey Greenstein’s defense, mustered up several chances early, but Andrew Srulowitz was up to the task in net for Frisch. Frisch, however, broke open the scoring a few minutes into the first period and never looked back. With goals from William Trump, Jacob Feit (2), Eli Knapp, Ethan Alter, Jared Moskowitz, and Jonah Cohen, the Cougars took a 7-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Cougars and Thunder came back out for the second period and the scoring continued for Frisch with Ethan Alter netting his second and Caleb Breda scoring his first of the night. However, YDE was not ready to go away quietly. Jack Harary made a nice play in front and put YDE’s first goal past Srulowitz to make the score 9-1. Frisch then took a penalty, and after a short-handed goal by Ethan Alter to give him the hat-trick, YDE netted a power play goal scored by Sammy Cohen. The period ended with Frisch scoring three more goals, one by Eitan Geisler and two from Jared Moskowitz, to give him the hat-trick as well. Frisch took a 13-2 lead into the locker room after the second period.
The third period had more great hockey from both sides, with Sammy Franco scoring a power play goal for YDE and Caleb Breda scoring his second for Frisch. After great efforts from both teams, Frisch’s goal scoring proved to be the deciding factor in this one. Frisch advances by a score of 14-3 and awaits the winner of SAR vs. Rambam.
