TABC Advances to the Finals With Hard-Fought Victory Over HAFTR
3/13/2017 10:24

Teaneck, NJ- Monday March 13th, brought the much anticipated JV hockey semi-final game featuring the HAFTR Hawks and the TABC Storm, taking place at the WeatherCenter. This was a rematch of the varsity quarterfinal game, which was held in Lawrence, where TABC defeated HAFTR in an epic double-overtime instant-classic. Additionally, this was the 1st part of an unprecedented JV basketball/hockey double-header, with both games being played between the Hawks and the Storm consecutively at TABC. In tonight's game, within the 1st 2 minutes, the Hawks went on a power play. They didn't waste anytime, netting a goal, just 2:37 into the game. The remainder of the period was more or less even, with the Storm holding the slight advantage. They managed to put one on the board with less than a minute left, as Avraham Gellman scored top-shelf with the assist going to Andy Katz. The 1st period ended in a 1-1 tie. The Hawks came out flying to begin the 2nd period, but after the Storm fended off HAFTR's attack, they controlled most of the period. However, the HAFTR goalie made some incredible saves, getting one with his stick while diving towards the ball on a TABC power play. With another period in the books, HAFTR and TABC were knotted at 1 apiece. The 3rd period brought more of the same, with HAFTR's goalie continuing to stand on his head. The Storm were finally able to break the tie about half way thru the period on a nice goal by Eli Spinowitz off of a feed from Eli Schiff. The Hawks had their chances late, but they couldn't convert due to the stifling defense of ET Dubin, Andy Katz, Yechiel Keiser, and Yonatan Naor and the great goaltending of Avrumi Davis. Ben Englander, duel-sport athlete Akiva Hain, and Avinoam Wizman all contributed heavily to TABC's offensive dominance. The Storm will now travel to Lawrence Middle School for the championship game, where the Frisch Cougars await. Puck-drop at 1:30.
