No "Ehrly" Exit for DRS This Year
6/3/2016 5:08

2 vans carried a DRS team full of hopeful, anxious players looking to pull off yet another upset in these 2016 JV Playoffs. After an overnight journey, during which the only food to eat was an order of nachos from central perk, the team appropriately emerged from their vehicles to a daunting drizzle. Nevertheless, the boys took on a high seeded JEC team filled with confident, sleeveless sluggers. Early on, the home field looked more like a disadvantage as a misplayed single hit by Aaron erlich ended up getting by the left fielder allowing him to get all the way to third. A sharply hit ball hit by avi Greenberg was fumbled as well,  leading to a 1 run lead for DRS. In the top of the second, Aaron Erlich, who had a career defining performance, drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to give the the Cats a 2 to 0 lead. But with 2 out in the bottom half of the inning and 2 men on, the number two hitter in the lineup turned on one and tied the game on a deep triple.  This flustered the DRS offense while JEC was quickly gaining momentum. To make matters worse, a sharply dressed "assistant coach" advised that JEC should walk DRS slugger Eli Roz every time he came up to the plate.  Thankfully, the defense, led by folkhero Aaron erlich, stayed steady throughout the game. The first baseman made 4 short hop scoops, much to the dismay of the JEC faithful. However that all changed in the bottom of the fifth inning when JEC rallied their way to a bases loaded, one out, situation. Suddenly Moshe Habshush, began a slow chant on the sidelines... "it's Miller Time"!  And so pitcher Benny Miller stared at Kazlow's glove, and put the game on his shoulders. With the infield brought in, the first batter hit a slow chopper to Aryeh at 3rd who threw home for the force out. There was no stopping Miller now as the next batter hit a feeble pop up to Natey simintov to end the inning. Simintov came up big for a pumped up DRS squad with a booming one out double. With runners on second and third, Noah Watman, who missed last week's contest, lined a single up the middle for the go ahead run. However, a one run lead was not enough secure enough for the Wildcats. They had come all this way and were not going to take their foot off the pedal too early. Sure enough, in the top of the seventh, Benny Miller helped his own cause by lining a single into left field. With one out, Avi Samter came up to the plate hungry for a hit. Digging deep, he ripped one down the third base line for a huge double to put two runners in scoring potion with just one out. Familiar hero, Aron Erlich again made it rain by drilling a two rbi double in the gap putting a stamp on the game and sending the JV Wildcats to their first championship since coach Gav Dechter was last there 7 years ago. Filling in for the MIA Danny Palgon, DRS faithfuld Mr and Mrs Aryeh, who drove all the way from Long Island to watch their team defeat JEC, had this to say: "watching this team all year long, they deserve it. The midos tovos, coupled with their strong defense and trust in each other is the reason they have a chance to be champions  of the Jewish world". It was was a satisfying result for a team who has defied all odds as the number 8 seed. A frusterating year, filled with rainy games and scheduling difficulties has ended being a magical one. The Wildcats hope to make their friends and athletic director, rabbi finkelstein, proud as they face off with MTA in the championship next week.
