In the thrilling opener of the 2016 JV softball season, it was a clash of the east as Rambam hosted the DRS Wildcats on a rainy-then sunny- afternoon at Grant Park, Field #3. After the Wildcats were ousted in the Semifinals to the defending champ MAY, expectations were high. A team full of youthful freshman, DRS was not intimidated by the much larger and older team of Ravens. Umpire Steve returned for his 35th consecutive season and lay down the fround rules just before the first pitch was thrown. He mentioned "anything over the fence is a homerun." Little did DRS know, they would hit a record 4 Homeruns that afternoon. In game 1, Rambam got on the board early scoring 3 runs in the thrid inning. Things were looking meek for DRS as only two baseruners reached base in the first 3 innings. But in the top of the fourth, DRS came alive, fueled by flame-throwing pitching by Benny Miller's as he furiously struckout a Ravencwhich stranded the bases loaded. After crossing the plate four times to take the lead, number three hitter Eli Roz stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded for DRS. Channeling his inner Barry Bonds, Roz hit one of the farthest homeruns ever recorded at Grant Park, including Varsity records. Right off the bat, evryone knew the game was essentially over as the ball soared a whopping 378 estimated  feet and gave the visiting Wildcats a commmanding 8-3 lead. From then on it was "Miller Time" as Benny cruised his way to finish the game for DRS' first win of the season. Eeven umpire Steve was impressed claiming "Those last two pitches [on the outside corner to strikeout the last Raven of the sixth inning] were preety impressive." The final score; 12-3.
