In one of the most highly anticipated games of the year, the number 3 seeded Frisch Cougars played at the number 1 seeded SAR Sting in the semifinals. The first period was back and forth with Frisch controlling most of the play. Stellar goaltending by Jedidiah Konovitch kept the game scoreless until ten seconds left in the period when Ethan Alter sent a pass to Jacob Feit on a 2 on 1 to score the game’s first goal. And so after 1 period Frisch lead 1-0. The start of the second period was huge for both teams as Frisch was looking to grab a bigger lead while SAR was looking to even the score. A few minutes into the period, Ari Fenster took a shot that bounced off the Frisch defender, took a weird hop, and got passed Frisch goalie Andrew Srulowitz. That was the lucky bounce you need to win playoff games and the score was tied 1-1 at that point. Both teams traded chances in the rest of the second period but neither team scored, setting the stage for a dramatic third period. With over 7 minutes to play, SAR got their first power play opportunity of the game. They had great puck possession for a minute before Eytan Krausz buried a slap shot from the point to give SAR the advantage. With the score 2-1, SAR now had just six minutes to defend before reaching the finals. However, Ethan Alter of Frisch had other plans. And with 4:11 remaining in the third, he capitalized on a breakaway and evened the score at 2. The game would remain tied for the next four minutes, sending the game to overtime. Then, just forty one seconds after the OT period started, Sam Fromen put in the overtime game winnng goal off a Gabriel Hornblass shot to lift SAR over Frisch in one of the most exciting games of the season.

SAR will face TABC at Lawrence Middle School on March 15th with the championship on the line.
